Captain Joshua L. Roberts
Captain Roberts is a native of Rockmart, Georgia. He is a graduate of Rockmart High School and attended
Recruit Training at Parris Island, South Carolina where he graduated in August, 1999.
Following the School of Infantry (ITB), he was assigned to Second Battalion, Fourth Marines, Fifth Marine
Regiment. During this tour, Captain Roberts served as a fire team leader, squad leader, radio operator, and
scout sniper. In 2000 and 2002, while with Second Battalion, Fourth Marines, he deployed with the 31st Marine
Expeditionary Unit (SOC) to Okinawa and Korea and took part in Exercise Foal Eagle.
In 2002 Captain Roberts was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program
(MECEP) and went on to complete his undergraduate education at Georgia State University, earning two
Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant
in May of 2007.
Following The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course, he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines,
3d Marine Division at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Captain Roberts’ initial assignment with 3d Battalion, 3d
Marines was platoon commander, second platoon, Lima Company. During his 16 months with Lima Company,
Captain Roberts deployed as the Officer in Charge of Combat Outpost Waleed, Iraq in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom 09-01.
Upon returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Captain Roberts attended the Mortar Leaders Course at
Fort Benning, Georgia. After graduating, he returned to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines and was assigned platoon
commander, 81mm Mortar Platoon, Weapons Company. In April 2010, Captain Roberts deployed to the Nawa
District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During this deployment
he served as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, Patrol Base Rashay OIC, and Weapons Company Civil
Affairs OIC.
In 2011, Captain Roberts was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia where he currently serves as the Marine Officer
Instructor, Atlanta Region Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC).
Captain Roberts’ personal awards include the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy-
Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Captain Roberts is married to the former Lois Victoria Branan of Canton, Georgia and they have one
daughter, Abigail Grace Roberts.
